Academic Programs

Jeffco Virtual Academy’s unique programming gives students flexible options on how they want to interact with the school: full time, part time or on an accelerated basis in the later grades to meet graduation requirements.

Jeffco Virtual Academy classes are asynchronous with schoolwork due on a weekly basis.

Asynchronous vs. Synchronous

With asynchronous education, students complete coursework on their own schedule, within a certain timeframe.

Synchronous education means students complete coursework with teachers and classmates at a scheduled time.

JVA provides asynchronous and synchronous coursework. Synchronous classes meet 1-2 times per week, with the rest of the week's coursework delivered asynchronously. The purpose of meeting 1-2 times per week with a dedicated JVA teacher is to ensure students are understanding complex concepts and able to ask questions in real time. Synchronous support classes are also offered in performance-based courses, including some art and music classes, some concurrent enrollment classes, and graduation-demonstration based classes such as Capstone.
