Learning at Jeffco Virtual Academy includes quality instruction, programming and support. Most classes are asynchronous and are online using a Learning Management System (LMS) called Schoology. Students also frequently use the Google Suite of products (Gmail, Google Drive) along with a number of other online tools and applications.

JVA offers synchronous support times where some classes will have specific times that they meet and when students will be expected to attend virtually or where staff members are offering virtual office hours.

Student and Family Handbook

Jeffco Virtual Academy’s highly qualified teachers design asynchronous online lessons following Jeffco curriculum. Our staff work flexible schedules just like our students do and are quick to respond to any questions with a Google Chat message, email, or Google Meet. Classes are available 24/7.

Work is released weekly with weekly deadlines, and students need to use their Jeffco Chromebook. If your student does not have a Jeffco Chromebook please contact our office at 303-982-6770 to schedule a time to pick one up.

Online lessons may include discussion boards, self-created videos, credited videos, readings, online textbooks, home-friendly experiments, and various assessments and projects.

Teachers will post office-hour availability for live support. There also are weekly synchronous academic support opportunities at JVA.

Creating Your Own Schedule

Creating a schedule AND sticking to it are two of the most important skills online students need to develop. Here are some tips to remember:

• Each class takes five to eight hours per week to complete.
• Create a schedule based on schoolwork.
• Wake, eat and dress at the same times every day.
• Prioritize your schedule based on when you're most focused.
• Set boundaries and communicate them to those you work around. Explain how you are juggling school and home.
• Tell them when you need to be in “do-not-disturb” mode. 
• Take a 10-minute break for every hour of work. Don’t overextend yourself due to the remote work dynamic. 
• Reward your efforts!

Part-time students

Part-time students: Your full-time school will generally tell you when you have a free period. Use that as your JVA time!

Jeffco Public Schools uses a Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) framework to organize and provide academic and social, emotional, and behavioral instruction and supports to ensure that every student receives what they need in order to be successful.
